Palm Beach County has quietly become one of the top destinations in the country for racquet sports. Whether you are a seasoned pro or just picked up a paddle for the first time, one thing is certain: our slice of Florida is obsessed with court sports and there is no shortage of places to play from West Palm Beach down to Boca Raton.
Since I’m out and about in these neighborhoods every day, I’ve seen firsthand how Pickleball has gone from “that game with the funny name” to the undisputed king of the social scene.
If you’re relocating here or just looking to downsize into a community where the social calendar is as full as your water bottle, here is a look at the best public spots to get on the court, plus some standout gated communities where tennis and pickleball are a serious part of daily life.
Public Courts and City Facilities
Lake Worth: John Prince Park
John Prince Park offers 6 outdoor hard courts dedicated entirely to pickleball. Best of all, it is completely free to play.
The park also has 6 tennis courts, making it one of the most well-rounded public facilities in the area.
It sits right off Lake Worth Road near Lake Osborne, so it is easy to get to from most of the surrounding neighborhoods. Courts are lighted and open until 10 p.m., which is a big deal in the Florida summer heat.
Greenacres Freedom Park (Greenacres)
Just a short drive from Lake Worth, Greenacres Freedom Park is a 51-acre public park that offers 4 pickleball courts open daily from sunrise to 10 p.m. The park is well-equipped with restrooms, pavilions, a jogging path, and an exercise area, making it a comfortable spot to play even if you want to make an afternoon of it.
The city also offers indoor pickleball open play through the Greenacres Community Center on Swain Boulevard, on Saturdays. Click for the flyer.
Boynton Beach: Two Great Options
Boynton Beach punches above its weight when it comes to public racquet sports facilities.
The Boynton Beach Tennis and Pickleball Center on South Congress Avenue is a serious venue.
It features 17 Har-Tru courts, two hard courts, and six permanent pickleball courts.
The pickleball courts officially opened in early 2023, and the tennis courts went through a major renovation in fall 2024. Recent improvements have added new windscreens, a renovated pro shop, resurfaced courts, new flooring, and a refreshed lounge and TV area. The facility now has over 17,500 unique account holders, and court reservations can be made through the Play Boynton Beach mobile app.
Then there is Caloosa Park, located very close to the Boynton Beach tennis center. It is one of the area’s most popular pickleball destinations with 4 lighted tennis courts and 8 pickleball courts. Renovated in 2022 with new fencing and wind screens, the free public facility offers restrooms, water, and lights for evening play, also picnic areas, playgrounds and so much more. Courts here operate on a paddle drop system and stay open until 10 p.m.
Delray Beach: A Tennis Town with Pickleball Roots
The Delray Beach Tennis Center is a full-service public facility with 14 clay courts, 6 hard courts, and an 8,200-seat stadium, located right in the heart of Delray Beach just west of Atlantic Avenue. It also has 8 dedicated pickleball courts. The outdoor facilities are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For pickleball-specific schedules, the local club maintains a calendar at dbpickle.com.
Delray also has a second tennis location worth knowing about.
The Delray Swim and Tennis Club on Jaeger Drive features 24 clay courts and a clubhouse with a pro shop.
For something more casual, Pompey Park, located just north of downtown Delray, offers indoor pickleball courts in the gymnasium and focuses on advanced play, with open sessions on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Catherine Strong Park at SW 6th Street also has a pickleball court alongside basketball courts, a fitness trail, and a splash park.
