The Pickleball Trap: Buyers, beware

Love the sound of a Florida morning? Me too. Unless that sound is a giant popcorn machin, otherwise known as a pickleball court…right outside your bedroom window!

Look, I’m a tennis purist. I like my rallies long and my courts quiet. But in Palm Beach County, pickleball is sparking a literal civil war. We’re seeing lawsuits from Boca Raton to West Palm because of the noise, like the recent lawsuit in Boca Raton, where residents are suing their HOA because tennis-to-pickleball conversions happened without proper votes or noise studies

Pickleball hits roughly 70 decibels: that’s like having a vacuum cleaner running in your yard.

If you’re relocating to Florida, do not just look at the house. Check the ‘500-foot rule.’ Sound experts say if you’re closer than 500 feet to those courts, you’re in the ‘pop’ zone.
But beware: you might just see tennis courts now but in a week or 6 months they might be converted into pickleball courts!
So check the HOA minutes for any ‘future court conversions’ before you close.

Don’t let a ‘pop’ ruin your peace. I’m Sophie Daverio, your Palm Beach County expert.
Comment ‘TENNIS’ if you’re with me, or ‘PICKLE’ if you’ve already joined the dark side! just kidding…

Either way, don’t buy a home you’ll regret!
